Date: 15-10-2009

Hochiminh City, September 17th, 2009 - BlueScope Steel Vietnam, the country’s largest manufacturer of high-quality coated and pre-painted products for the construction industry, has joined Habitat for Humanity Vietnam to provide funding and product support to the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project: The Mekong Build 2009. Former U.S. President Carter and Mrs. Carter will come to Vietnam to honor the sponsors, volunteers and families who will work together to build 30 houses in one week during November.

BlueScope Steel’s cash donation will fund 1,600 square meters of corrugated roofing sheets, enough for the 32 houses Habitat is building in Dong Xa village, Binh Giang district, about an hour’s drive outside of Hanoi.

Le Anh Tuan, BlueScope Vietnam Vice President Marketing and External Affairs, said: “BlueScope Vietnam, as always, feel proud and privileged to be a sponsor for community activities like this, where we are able to exercise our corporate Bond philosophy – Community is Our Home. It is even more so when the partner is Habitat for Humanity Vietnam.”

This year’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project will be the 26th weeklong event in which President and Mrs. Carter have built homes and raised awareness of the need for affordable housing. The Carter Project 2009 is being held simultaneously in five Mekong countries. From Nov. 16 to 20, thousands of volunteers will build and renovate about 175 houses in Thailand, China, Cambodia and Lao, including those in Vietnam.

President Carter is a Nobel Peace Prize winner and founder of The Carter Center, an international non-governmental organization that promotes peace and improvements in health for developing countries. He and Mrs. Carter are also skilled and experienced at construction, having built houses with Habitat for Humanity in Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the United States.
